Something New is Cooking in Sealy’s History: The 1879 is Coming Soon

SEALY, TX — For over 100 years, the walls at 222 Fowlkes St. have stood as a silent witness to the growth of our town. This spring, those original brick walls are getting a new lease on life as they become the home of The 1879, a unique two-in-one dining destination designed specifically for the Sealy community.

Italian Heart, Texas Soul

The concept is simple but rare:

  • The Restaurant Side: A warm, inviting space dedicated to traditional Italian comfort food. Think slow-simmered sauces, handmade textures, and the kind of "Sunday Dinner" atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while.

  • The Pub Side: A laid-back local watering hole featuring American pub favorites, craft beer, and games.

A Team Rooted in the Community

Founded by hospitality veteran Steve Brown and led by GM/Head Chef Julio Velasquez, The 1879 bridges the gap between refined comfort and a casual neighborhood hangout. Julio, a former Director of Operations at First Watch, was part of Steve’s original launch team at the Social Pub and Grill years ago. Today, they are reuniting to bring a "personal on purpose" dining experience to Sealy.
